George Henry Jenkins Art for Sale

George Henry Jenkins (1838 -1914) | West Country Artist

Jenkins was a true West Country artist painting Devon & Cornwall landscape and seascape scenes throughout his artistic career.

He lived in Plympton Devon from 1873 to 1880. He and his wife had 7 children, including his son George Henry Jnr Jenkins, who also became an artist. Whilst their signatures are similar, his son’s (Jenkins Jnr) works can be distinguished by the use of brighter and more vivid colours. George Jenkins work appeals to West Country collectors due to his artistic and softer depiction of the late 19th Century West Country.

He painted in both oil and watercolour and exhibited 20 paintings at RWA Bristol between 1892 and 1895, also at Dore Gallery in 1900 and Elands Gallery in Exeter in 1907. Further works are held by Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery. Occasional North Wales landscape paintings do come up but it is his West Country Scenes in his most active period of 1870 and 1910 that are most likely to be found.
