Patrick Venton (1925-1987) | British Artist

Painter and teacher, who was born in Birmingham and who studied at Birmingham School of Art, 1946-50. He taught at his alma mater after his studies had ended and remained there until 1965. He came to prominence in the first John Moores Liverpool Exhibition, 1957-58, with his striking oil Kitchen Sink subsequently acquired by the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. Venton held a solo exhibition at the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham in 1966 and his work is represented in BMAG, Bradford Art Gallery and the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. He participated in Six Painters exhibition in the late 1950’s, which toured from the RBSA. A selective retrospective exhibition of his work was held at the Marylebone gallery of Modern British Artists in 2006.
